+ American farmers are facing new and increasing challenges to the way they produce food, fiber and energy.  Ballot initiatives, non-governmental organizations, capital markets and social media are among the factors that contribute to these challenges.  This portion of the program will focus on identifying the most significant of these challenges to ag production and how farmers and allied industries are responding.

Tax Planning for the Minnesota Farm, Christopher J. Kamath, Gislason & Hunter LLP
 + This session presents an overview of the tax issues facing farming clients, with a focus on the Minnesota and federal estate tax. The session will also cover recent updates on President Biden’s proposed changes to the federal estate tax, stepped-up basis rules, and the treatment of long-term capital gains. Participants will leave the session with a better understanding of tax and succession issues facing agricultural clients.
